The Himalaya Film Festival TOKYO 2010, the 4th in the series in Japan, was finished with more than 1000 audiences. In addition to screening documentary films, the related international symposium was held with Japanese experts as well as foreign panelists from India, Bhutan and Nepal.

As you already know from the news, a large earthquake has hit much of Yushu, the regional centre of a remote part of Qinghai province in Tibet. This area is traditioanaly called "Kham", the eastern Tibet and the hometown for "Khampa", the eastern Tibetan people. According to Xinhuashe dated on Apr. 20th, 2039 people died...

Mr. Jurme Wangda, the former entourage of the Dalai Lama came to Japan on Mar. 10 and will hold several lectures both in Tokyo and Yokohama.  He is also a friend of the HAJ’s chief director. Mr. Wangda will talk about the Dalai Lama, culture and medicine of Tibet, Tibetan issues and so on, which are hardly reported in the mass media. Mitaka Film Life and Peace Festival with theme on ‘Life’ and ‘Peace’ will be held on 22 – 23, August 2009 in Mitaka city, Tokyo. Himalaya Archive Japan will support this film festival by providing its films and a speaker. For more details, please click here.

In December 8th, 2008, HAJ was registered as a Specified Non Profit Organization (Corporate Number: 0134-05-000793)

On this date in Japan“Seidokai” is held. “Seidokai” is a Buddhist memorial service to commemorate the enlightenment of the Buddha It seems that HAJ has a special link with the Buddha who was born in the Himalayas.
